How You, The DBA can Manage Oracle RAC
hosted in
DataCenter, Exadata or Cloud
EFFECTIVELY
Oracle RAC Concept, How Important It is…..
Why You must always give Importance for Understanding the Concept than the Theoretical aspects and use a Component.
“Why” is the way, a component is applied in Real Time to enhance productivity and performance whereas “What” is the Theoretical aspect and “How” is the way Component can be deployed.
Unless a component is extensively used for various needs, Understanding the “Why” part of Oracle RAC is not easy.
We at DataSphere give high importance for “Why” i.e. for Concepts.
Let’s understand a Concept,
Why Oracle RAC is called “Real Application Clusters” when it a Group of Instances for catering service to a Single Database.
In today’s Dynamic and Diversified environment, numerous applications are used for catering to the requirements of the Customers.
Each Application has its own Resource needs that has to be regulated for Optimal utilization of Infrastructure resources and Oracle RAC features can be used to provide sufficient resources for the Applications hence Oracle calls RAC as “Real Application Clusters” rather than Real Instance Clusters.
Oracle RAC has features that makes the Applications to get the resources based on the Business Needs but must configure a RAC component by the Administrators to achieve it.
Let’s look into 2 features out of the available features of RAC that supports Applications
- Services
- SCAN
Services can be configured with Preferred Instances and Available Instances.
Preferred Instances are the Instances in which the service is started, running and registered with the Listener so that Applications can connect through the listener to an Instance in which the service is running.
But the same application may need a different amount of resource in a different point of time, then Administrators can manage, start and stop services based on the need.
For example, if an application needs normal amount resources during weekdays however more resources is required during weekend, need to be taken care of by the administrator to regulate the resources.
Services can be effectively used for achieving RAC, Real Application Clusters means providing resources to applications based on the resource need.
SCAN Single Client Access Name is a facility to listen for entire cluster instead of Individual Instances.
Though SCAN is primarily for High Availability, it is also for Optimal utilization of resources.
Whenever a request from client comes to SCAN Listener, using LBA – Load Balancing Advisor SCAN will redirect the connection to a Listener of an Instance that has less load. With this the Load is Balanced and hence the resource utilization is Optimal as the Load is distributed to different Instances.
Services and SCAN are related as the client’s request for a specific service is redirected by the SCAN Listener to the RDBMS Listener to which the Service is registered.
Understanding the Concepts thoroughly help You, The DBA to configure the components for Applications based on the need that helps You in achieving Optimal Resource Utilization irrespective of hosting Oracle RAC in DataCenter, Exadata Machine, Cloud Platform.
Also features like Flex Cluster, Flex ASM are essential for Future Needs as it not only Dynamic and Diversified, it also become Fierce.
DataSphere’s Oracle RAC course helps You to imbibe the Concepts, based on which Theory and Practical activities depends on.
DataSphere is the place where You can validate the Concept with Your Understanding of Theory and Performing Practical activities.
The Reason Oracle Database is popular and widely used is, It Always Goes by Architecture / Concepts.
